Your key to peace of mind.

Travelling with keys in an open pocket may see you constantly worrying that they’ve fallen out.

A zipped pocket can resolve this anxiety, but only if you trust it not to fail.

Constantly checking your pocket for keys is relatively easy to do (and conceal). You can brush your hand against them as you walk along.

Checking whether a zip is still operating correctly takes more effort.

Ironically, repeatedly checking a zip is a sure-fire way to accelerate its demise.

Learning to ‘trust the zip’ is an exercise your counsellor may give you.

Set a time for which you ‘trust’ the zip before checking it. Start with two minutes. When you can leave the zip alone for that long, increase the interval to four minutes. Then keep doubling it.

As you discover the zip intact and functioning after each increasingly long interval, your brain will be forced to accept that:

  1. The zip is trustworthy.
  2. Your keys are safe.
  3. There are better things to do with your time.

This exercise takes effort, but it does work. You may also need a ‘refresher’ from time to time.
